User Accessibility Information

Tobacco Free Florida is committed to making our website accessible to all visitors, as well as compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 accessibility standards. Accessible Web design provides benefits to individuals using assistive technology, users with text-based browsers, low-end processors, slow modem connections, or users who do not have state-of-the-art computer equipment. Section 508 of the ADA establishes requirements for electronic and information technology developed, maintained, procured, or used by the Federal government. Section 508 requires Federal electronic and information technology to be accessible to all people with disabilities, including employees and members of the public. Tobacco Free Florida has included several features designed to improve accessibility.

Here are some of these features:

  1. We strive to maintain a simple, consistent page layout throughout our site. We Keep backgrounds simple and also make sure there is enough contrast.
  2. Images on the site contain ‘alt tags’ with descriptions of the image, which aid users who listen to the content of the site by using a screen reader rather than reading the site.
  3. We avoid the use of images of text wherever possible, and provide equivalent text links for links which consist of images.
  4. Audio and video clips are accompanied by plain text transcripts.
  5. We make PDF documents as accessible as possible, and generally provide the same content in other accessible formats. You can download the latest version of the free Acrobat Reader and Adobe accessibility information here
  6. Web pages incorporate ‘skip navigation,’ a method for skipping to the main page content, sidebar, header, and footer navigation for individuals using assistive technology.
  7. We utilize relative size text wherever possible, which allows a user to change the text size in browsers.
  8. We also provide a text based site map here
